Arbitrary p-form Galileons

چکیده
We show that scalar, 0-form, Galileon actions—models whose field equations contain only second derivatives—can be generalized to arbitrary even p-forms. More generally, they need not even depend on a single form, but may involve mixed p combinations, including equal pmultiplets, where odd p fields are also permitted: We construct, for given dimension D, general actions depending on scalars, vectors, and higher p-form field strengths, whose field equations are of exactly second derivative order. We also discuss and illustrate their curved-space generalizations, especially the delicate nonminimal couplings required to maintain this order. Concrete examples of pure and mixed actions, field equations, and their curved-space extensions are presented.

Riding on irrelevant operators
We investigate the stability of a class of derivative theories known as P (X) and Galileons against corrections generated by quantum effects. We use an exact renormalisation group approach to argue that these theories are stable under quantum corrections at all loops in regions where the kinetic term is large compared to the strong coupling scale. This is the regime of interest for screening or...
متن کاملGalileons coupled to massive gravity: general analysis and cosmological solutions
We further develop the framework for coupling galileons and Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) scalar fields to a massive graviton while retaining both the non-linear symmetries of the scalars and ghost-freedom of the theory. The general construction is recast in terms of vielbeins which simplifies calculations and allows for compact expressions. Expressions for the general form of the action are derived,...
متن کاملGalilean-invariant scalar fields can strengthen gravitational lensing.
The mystery of dark energy suggests that there is new gravitational physics on long length scales. Yet light degrees of freedom in gravity are strictly limited by Solar System observations. We can resolve this apparent contradiction by adding a Galilean-invariant scalar field to gravity. Called Galileons, these scalars have strong self-interactions near overdensities, like the Solar System, tha...
متن کاملMultifield Galileons and Higher Codimension Branes
In the decoupling limit, the Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati model reduces to the theory of a scalar field π, with interactions including a specific cubic self-interaction—the Galileon term. This term, and its quartic and quintic generalizations, can be thought of as arising from a probe 3-brane in a five-dimensional bulk with Lovelock terms on the brane and in the bulk.We study multifield generalizati...
متن کاملConvective Heat Transfer from a Heated Rotating Disk at Arbitrary Inclination Angle in Laminar Flow
In this paper, experimental data and numerical results of heat transfer from a heated rotating disk in still air are presented over a large range of inclination angles and a dimensionless correlation is developed for forced, natural and mixed convection. The measured Nusselt number over the rotating disk is compared with the numerical results. The goal of the present research is to develop a se...
